Ex-Sunderland striker Ross Stewart and former Black Cats goalkeeper Craig Gordon, aged 43, have been named in Scotland’s World Cup squad.
According to Sunderland Echo, Southampton forward Stewart has scored 10 in his past 21 outings, helping Saints reach the Championship play-off final. The 29-year-old won his only two caps in 2022 and joins Che Adams, Lyndon Dykes, Lawrence Shankland and George Hirst up front.
Rangers winger Findlay Curtis keeps his place after a March debut against Japan following a strong loan spell with Kilmarnock. Ben Gannon-Doak also features in Steve Clarke’s 26-man group after three substitute appearances for Bournemouth since a serious hamstring injury in the November win over Denmark.
Clarke has picked Angus Gunn, Gordon and Liam Kelly in goal, and the trio have managed just seven club games between them all season. Falkirk’s Scott Bain misses out despite playing against the Ivory Coast in March.
Ross McCrorie drops out, with Aaron Hickey, Anthony Ralston and Nathan Patterson covering right-back. The defence is familiar, with Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney alongside centre-backs Grant Hanley, Dom Hyam, John Souttar, Scott McKenna and Jack Hendry.
There is disappointment for Lennon Miller as the Udinese midfielder is omitted. John McGinn, Kenny McLean, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson and Ryan Christie form midfield alongside Curtis and Gannon-Doak.
Clarke weighed the form of Oli McBurnie, Oliver Burke and Kieron Bowie, but Stewart edged ahead and Hirst keeps his spot with regulars Dykes, Adams and Shankland.
