Ex-Sunderland striker Ross Stewart and former Black Cats goalkeeper Craig Gordon, aged 43, have been named in Scotland’s World Cup squad by Steve Clarke.

According to Sunderland Echo, Southampton forward Stewart has scored 10 in his last 21 to help Saints into the Championship play-off final. The 29-year-old earned two caps in 2022 before injuries checked his progress. He links up with fellow strikers Che Adams, Lyndon Dykes, Lawrence Shankland and George Hirst.

Rangers winger Findlay Curtis keeps his place after a March debut against Japan, following strong loan form with Kilmarnock. Ben Gannon-Doak is also included in the 26-man squad after three substitute appearances for Bournemouth since a serious hamstring injury in the November win over Denmark.

Clarke has picked Angus Gunn, Gordon and Liam Kelly in goal, the trio managing just seven club games between them this season. Falkirk’s Scott Bain misses out despite featuring against the Ivory Coast in March.

Ross McCrorie drops out, leaving Aaron Hickey, Anthony Ralston and Nathan Patterson as the right-back options. The defence also includes Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney and centre-backs Grant Hanley, Dom Hyam, John Souttar, Scott McKenna and Jack Hendry.

There is disappointment for Udinese midfielder Lennon Miller, who misses out. John McGinn, Kenny McLean, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson and Ryan Christie complete the midfield group alongside wingers Curtis and Gannon-Doak.

Up front, Clarke weighed the recent form of Oli McBurnie, Oliver Burke and Kieron Bowie, but Stewart edged ahead and the regulars kept their places.
