FA Cup fourth round, Wrexham and Birmingham eye potential upsets

According to NY Times, the FA Cup fourth round this weekend offers ripe upset potential, with Wrexham, Birmingham and Grimsby targeting shocks.

Wrexham, of the Championship, host Ipswich Town at the Racecourse Ground on Friday, 13 February, 7.45pm GMT. They knocked out Nottingham Forest in round three, and face opponents who were in the Premier League last season. Only 7 points separate sixth-placed Wrexham and third-placed Ipswich, yet the hosts are winless in three at home and still await a 90-minute home win in 2026.

Birmingham City face Leeds United at St Andrew’s on Sunday, 15 February, 12pm GMT. Unbeaten in eight since a 3-0 loss at Watford on New Year’s Day, they have suffered one home league defeat in 16.

Leeds have lost two of 14 since the start of December, but Daniel Farke could rotate. They have one clean sheet in eight, while Birmingham have scored in all but two of their 18 home matches. Leeds have won three of the past four meetings, two in 2019, yet an upset is possible.

Grimsby Town host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Blundell Park on Sunday, 15 February, 1.30pm GMT. Wolves’ relegation already looks all but certain with 12 games left, and aside from a 6-1 third-round win over Shrewsbury, goals have dried up.

They have not won away all season, losing 10 of 13 and scoring only five. Grimsby have won seven of nine to surge into League Two play-off contention.

The surface could be awkward, but Wolves’ top-flight quality could still tell, though if there is an upset this weekend, it might be here.
