Fabian Ruiz remains sidelined a month after a left knee contusion, with Paris Saint-Germain putting the 29-year-old on adapted individual work for the next two weeks to ease the pain, the club said after its latest assessment. No return date has been set.
His last appearance was on 20 January, when he went off on 80 minutes against Sporting Portugal in the Champions League. Since then PSG's medical updates have shifted from treatment to individual training, then individual work across recent fixtures, including before Strasbourg, Marseille, Metz and Monaco.
Whether this is a setback remains unclear, though inside the club a relapse has been dismissed. The problem is being managed as persistent pain under a new protocol, with no target date for a comeback.
Head coach Luis Enrique regards the absence of key players such as Ruiz as a real problem and is staying positive in the hope of a quick return, but he does not have a timeline.
Ruiz is already close to being ruled out of the round of 16 first leg on 11 March, and he might also miss the return against Chelsea on 17 March. A longer lay-off into the late-March international break is not excluded. PSG must start a pivotal run without their Spanish midfielder.
