Christmas has come early in Fantasy Premier League, with every FPL manager being gifted five free transfers ahead of the AFCON departures next week.

It’s a rare chance to reshape your squad without taking a hit, and the perfect moment to get ahead of the template before it settles again.

We’ve picked out five of the best players to target with your free transfers to give your team the boost it needs going into Gameweek 16.

Phil Foden – Manchester City

MID – £8.6m – 28.2% owned

Next 3: CRY (A) – WHU (H) – NFO (A)

Phil Foden is back in red-hot form, and he’s forced his way into our FPL plans. After being the most transferred-in player last week, Foden delivered once again with a third consecutive double-digit haul.

With five goals and 44 points across his last three Gameweeks, the former Premier League Player of the Season is becoming almost impossible to ignore.

He looks back to his brilliant best, and with ownership set to soar again this week, this isn’t one to overthink.

Bukayo Saka – Arsenal

MID – £10.2m – 19.9% owned

Next 3: WOL (H) – EVE (A) – BHA (H)

Arsenal are at their best when their attack runs through their talisman, and with uncertainty surrounding the rest of their frontline, Saka is easily the best route into the Gunners’ attack.

He’s on a host of set pieces, trusted for 90 minutes, and backed by healthy underlying numbers — posting 0.66 xGI per 90 this season.

A home game against bottom-of-the-league Wolves in GW16 carries huge haul potential, and he’ll be one of the most popular captain picks for a reason. If you’re using your free transfers to chase explosive returns, he should be near the top of your list.

Harry Wilson – Fulham

MID – £5.3m – 3.3% owned

Next 3: BUR (A) – NFO (H) – WHU (A)

A less obvious option, but Harry Wilson is quietly one of the league’s most in-form players right now, with two goals and two assists in his last three games. Only Phil Foden and Bruno Fernandes have more FPL points than him in that period.

He feels undroppable right now, and his minutes should be even more secure over the coming weeks with teammates Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze heading to AFCON.

Fulham also have the best fixtures in the league across the next three Gameweeks, facing three of the bottom four. If you’re looking to take a punt on a cheaper, low-owned midfielder, this could be the perfect time to strike.

Piero Hincapie – Arsenal

DEF – £5.4m – 1.0% owned

Next 3: WOL (H) – EVE (A) – BHA (H)

Arsenal have the best defence in the league this season, conceding just nine goals and keeping eight clean sheets in their first 15 games.

With Gabriel not expected back until the new year, Hincapié now looks to have a starting spot nailed down and offers the cheapest route into the Arsenal backline we’ve had all season.

He’s started each of the last four matches and picked up DefCon bonus in the most recent two. With Wolves at home up next, you’ll struggle to find better clean-sheet odds all season.

Sepp van den Berg – Brentford

DEF – £4.5m – 0.8% owned

Next 3: LEE (H) – WOL (A) – BOU (H)

Brentford’s defence hasn’t been as poor as many assume this season, ranking eighth in the league for expected goals against. With Leeds and Wolves up next, there’s a genuine chance of a clean sheet or two on the horizon.

Sepp van den Berg ranks sixth among defenders for xG this season (1.86) and is regularly a key target for Brentford’s trademark long throws.

He also performs well for defensive contributions, earning bonus on six occasions and averaging 8.5 DefCon per 90. Teammate Nathan Collins does post stronger numbers on that metric (10.4), but with four yellow cards to his name and walking the suspension tightrope, Van den Berg feels like the smarter pick.
