FC Bayern could be on the verge of losing one of its mostexciting young talents:Moritz Göttlicher, once oneof Munich’smost striking playersfrom the U17 age group, is apparently about to leave the club
FC Bayern could lose one of its most exciting young talents: Moritz Göttlicher, once one of the most eye-catching players of the Munich U17 age group, is apparently about to make a groundbreaking decision about his future. According to Sky, the 15-time U17 international is planning to leave Munich – and two Bundesliga clubs want to make an immediate move
Göttlicher has been regarded as a creative driving force in FC Bayern’s youth ranks for years. The attacking midfielder caused a sensation alongside Lennart Karl at U17 level in particular. Together, the pair dominated the 2024/25 season almost at will. The club’s B-Juniors won all 14 preliminary round matches at the time, more than half of them with at least a four-goal difference
The 9:1 opening win against Unterhaching remains an example of this superiority to this day: Karl scored five times, while Göttlicher contributed the first of his later total of eleven first-round assists. No other player in the league collected more assists; even Karl followed in second place with one less. Göttlicher added a further five assists in the final round of the championship. However, the title was narrowly missed – the team was defeated by Gladbach in the semi-finals
Göttlicher then moved more into the role of an enforcer in the U19s. Five goals and two assists in eleven competitive matches, including Youth League, underlined his development into a versatile attacking player. Since mid-October, however, the 18-year-old’s career has been slowed down by a pelvic injury. While Karl has since joined FC Bayern’s professional team, Göttlicher needs to plan his next steps much more carefully

That is exactly what appears to be happening now, with Sky reporting that the midfielder is „planning to leave“ and does not want to extend his contract, which expires in the summer. Munich would have liked to offer the talent a future at the club, but interest from the Bundesliga is changing the starting position. According to the report, FC Augsburg and Mainz 05 are ready to integrate Göttlicher into the professional squad next year. This could open up a direct route to the Bundesliga for the teenager – but not in Munich.
