The champions of Germany and Italy meet on Matchday 2 of the league phase in the UEFA Women’s Champions League as FC Bayern Women host Juventus at the Campus. After last week’s opening defeat in Barcelona, the Munich Frauen are looking to bounce back in Europe. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game, which kicks off at 21:00 CEST.
Bayern’s Champions League campaign did not get off to the best start as José Barcala suffered his first loss at the helm, going down 7-1 in Barcelona. However, the team showed the ideal reaction at the weekend to win 3-1 away at title rivals Wolfsburg and reclaim top spot in the Google Pixel Bundesliga. Bayern now want to take that positive momentum into their first European home match of this season.
Arianna Caruso spent over seven years at Juventus and now faces her former club with Bayern.
Juventus got off to a winning start in the Champions League by coming from behind to beat Benfica 2-1 thanks to a brace from Cecilia Salvai, including an 86th-minute winner in Turin.
The Serie A champions have got their title defence off to a shaky start, however, opening with a goalless draw against Sassuolo before a 1-0 defeat to Como at the weekend.

Barcala remains without Barbara Dunst (training after cruciate ligament injury), Sarah Zadrazil (cruciate ligament), Vanessa Gilles (muscular), Jovana Damnjanović (hamstring) and Carolin Simon (hamstring), while goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic has now also been ruled out for several weeks after suffering an ankle injury in training.
This match is a special one for Arianna Caruso:
José Barcala: “Juventus are a team who can press high. We need to find a way to get through that press and get forward in a coordinated way. Juve are a team with lots of talent, capable of playing in a vertical way and also using set pieces. We respect our opponent and take Juventus very seriously, because they have lots of experience in this competition.”
Linda Dallman: “I’ve got positive memories of the previous two Champions League games against Juventus. The games were a lot of fun for us. We played in a really dominant way. We need to build on that. We want to make up for the first game and show the right side of us. We’ve prepared as best we can, analysed lots of scenes from Juventus and know what’s coming.”
Arianna Caruso: “I have a lot of respect for Juventus and still follow them. But as soon as the match starts, it’ll be like any other game for me. They play direct football and are very good in transition. We need to be prepared for that and 100 percent focused. Juve’s motto means ‘until the end’ – we need to be alert from the first minute till the last.”
