FC Bayern Women kick off the 2025/26 Google Pixel Bundesliga season with their opening game at the Allianz Arena against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Kick-off is at 5.45pm CEST. There are still tickets available to watch the double winners in action. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the campaign’s curtain-raiser.

Latest news from Bayern

With a crowd of over 50,000 fans set to come to the Allianz Arena, it’s a fitting stage for FC Bayern Women as they begin a new season full of excitement and title ambitions. After an intense pre-season, José Barcala’s side kicked off the campaign last weekend with a 4-2 win over Wolfsburg in the Supercup. Now the Munich Frauen return to league action looking to start off their title defence with the same form that won it in 2024/25, including a run of 13 straight wins to finish.

Opponent: Bayer Leverkusen

Leverkusen played several friendly matches during pre-season as they geared up for the campaign, including a 1-0 win over Ajax, a 3-0 victory against Westerlo and a final 7-1 thumping of Standard Liege. There were also defeats to fellow Bundesliga sides Hoffenheim (2-0) and Wolfsburg (3-2), plus draws with Dutch opponents Zwolle (1-1) and PSV Eindhoven (0-0).

Roberto Pätzold guided the Werkself to fourth place last season – the club’s best finish in their history. However, they failed to beat Bayern, losing 3-2 in Leverkusen and 2-0 in Munich.

Team news

Pre-match quotes

José Barcala: “We’re expecting a team that plays with very high intensity and will press early. So, we need to be particularly alert in possession, because transitions will be key. The important thing is that our defence is in place to cover and our whole structure remains solid. That’ll be key against this opponent.”

Georgia Stanway: “Our demand is to always be a step ahead of Leverkusen. They’re an awkward opponent who work hard and run a lot. Obviously we want to try to control the game with possession, but a lot can happen in football over 90 minutes.”
