FC Bayern Women’s first away game of the 2025/26 Google Pixel Bundesliga season takes them to the Red Bull Arena to take on RB Leipzig on Sunday. Kick-off is at 2pm CEST. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the match in our preview.

Latest news from Bayern

After retaining the Supercup with a 4-2 win over Wolfsburg, Bayern also kicked off their Bundesliga title defence in victorious fashion by beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 in front of a crowd of 57,762 at the Allianz Arena. It’s been a perfect start in charge for José Barcala, who will want to maintain that record as the Munich Frauen once again play on the big stage in Leipzig.

Opponent: RB Leipzig

Leipzig played seven friendly matches during pre-season, managing to score in each of them. Jonas Stephan’s side won four, including a 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg, and drew two, with the sole blemish a 3-1 defeat to Sparta Prague. Having finished eighth in the Bundesliga last season, they kicked off this campaign with a 2-0 win at Köln.

Bayern won both meetings with Leipzig last season. The game in Munich ended in a comfortable 6-2 win, but it took an early header from Magdalena Eriksson to get the better of the hosts in Leipzig. FCB so far boast a perfect record against Die Roten Bullen in the Bundesliga, winning all four by an aggregate score of 15-2. There’s no team Bayern have scored more goals against in the league over the last two seasons.

Team news

Barcala remains without Barbara Dunst as she continues her recovery from a cruciate ligament injury. Captain Glódis Viggósdóttir and Giulia Gwinn are also still unavailable as they work their way back to full fitness. Eriksson misses out with a slight knee issue.

Arianna Caruso and Bayern are looking to make it three wins from three this season and maintain their perfect record against RB Leipzig.

Pre-match quotes

José Barcala: “Training this week was very good, both physically and tactically. With Leipzig we’re facing an opponent that wants to play out from the back even under pressure. We expect them to play with a back five and be very compact, so we need to make sure we can recognise the space that opens up. We need to remain patient, because the opposition will definitely put in a lot of effort from the start.”

Franziska Kett: “We need to be ready for an opponent that definitely wants to get something out of the game. We’re playing in the big stadium in front of a lot of fans, so Leipzig will be extra motivated. We need to be at 100 percent to get a win tomorrow. We want to control the game, have the ball, be solid at the back, combine well going forward and be a threat in front of goal. If we can manage that, we’re well set for a first away win of the season.”
