Bayern enjoyed a comprehensive 5-0 win at home to Hamburg on Saturday evening. “A clean sheet and five goals scored – that was really good. The atmosphere in the stadium was simply amazing. It reminded me of the atmosphere at Oktoberfest and was really fun,” said a thoroughly satisfied Vincent Kompany. “We did our job, were completely focused in our approach to the game and scored some sensational goals,” captain Manuel Neuer added. fcbayern.com has more of the post-match reaction.

Reaction to Bundesliga game against Hamburg

Max Eberl (board member for sport): “It was a compact team performance. We defended very actively as a group. The lads went full pelt in the first half. We changed a few things at half-time, but we still tried to score. If we can play to our full ability, we are hard to beat. If we believe we can work a little less hard, games will be close. We should keep playing the way we did today.”

Vincent Kompany: “A clean sheet and five goals scored – that was really good. The atmosphere in the stadium was simply amazing. It reminded me of the atmosphere at Oktoberfest and was really fun. We had a great start and that always helps. Everything went really well in the first half. In the second half, we could have done a little bit more. But we remained focused and serious, we controlled the game and added another goal. In the end, it's a great result. You can tell that we have a better understanding of each other, you can see many things are becoming automatic. So far, we have been working hard for our wins and that's why they're deserved.”

Manuel Neuer: ”We did our job, were completely focused in our approach to the game and scored some sensational goals. It was important to maintain our concentration and we tried to keep a clean sheet until the end. At the same time, we kept trying to score. Obviously, we concentrate on ourselves and want to execute our plan. It was important to be able to rest one or two players today. Many of us were on the road with our respective national teams and had to travel great distances. So, it was helpful we were up by four goals at half-time and able to make some substitutions.”

Serge Gnabry: “Overall, things are going very well in our team and it's really fun. We're playing together well, we're passing the ball around well and know what our teammates are going to do. Everything’s clicking right now. To be honest, I don't know why I took the shot to score that goal, but today it went in. I'm in good shape at the moment. I'm training as always and working hard. As a football player, you need a little bit of luck at times for things to go your way. Last season, I experienced a good spell but then my knee brought that to a halt. Now, I'm healthy, I feel well, I'm confident and I'm in a good flow.”

Reaction from Hamburg

Stefan Kuntz (board member for sport): “We wanted to defend actively. That didn't work at all in the first half. We were unable to disrupt their rhythm. Things started to look better in the second half. Obviously, Bayern have great individual class. It was enough for us to create a few chances today but we failed to score from those opportunities. Bayern, on the other hand, did score, and that was the difference today.”

Merlin Polzin (head coach): “Of course, we're not happy with the result or the first-half performance in particular. We will learn a great deal from this experience and will focus on the challenges ahead, which are far more important for us and probably more successful than today.”

Daniel Heuer Fernandes (goalkeeper): “The first half wasn't what we’d hoped for. We were too far away from our opponents and too far away in the zones in which we wanted to defend well. We didn't put enough pressure on the ball. Obviously, we played against a team which jumps on those opportunities. However, the second half gives me hope because it showed we can achieved defensive stability and show promise going forward if we follow our principles in terms of our mentality and attitude.”

Nicolai Remberg (midfielder): “We gave the goals away too easily and wasted the first half. We have to take responsibility for that. We were better at fighting back in the second half and we have to build on that.”
