A group of FC Porto members, "Por um Futebol Clube do Porto Maior, Unido, Insubmisso e Eclético", has urged the club to cut institutional ties with Sporting. The group said in a statement this follows remarks by Sporting president Frederico Varandas after last Tuesday’s match, which they deemed damaging to Porto’s good name and to its president.

The Insubmissos’ communication was addressed to André Villas-Boas and to António Tavares, president of the Mesa da Assembleia Geral and, by extension, president of the Conselho Superior, via Miguel Brás da Cunha and Luís Folhadela. The pair were elected from the group to the Conselho Superior at the most recent elections.

In the message, the members expressed full personal and institutional solidarity with the President of the Board of FC Porto.

They also reiterated a request made about a year ago, after Varandas’ behaviour and comments around the funeral rites of Honorary President Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, for all institutional relations with Sporting to be cut immediately.

Finally, they called on the Conselho Superior, with urgency, to show members and supporters its total commitment to defending the club’s good name and values.
