Fernando Diniz has worked with only one player in current Corinthians squad | OneFootball

Fernando Diniz starts life at Corinthians with a largely unfamiliar squad, with only Allan having previously played for him at Fluminense.

According to Meu Timao, the pair linked up in 2019, when Allan, then 21 and on loan from Liverpool, was key to Fluminense securing Brazilian Série A survival and a Copa Sudamericana spot. Under Diniz, he featured both as the first and as the second man in midfield.

At his 2019 unveiling by Fluminense, Allan said Diniz had shaped his decision to return to Brazil and praised the coach’s emphasis on possession and attractive football.

Diniz also referenced Alex Santana at his own Corinthians presentation, noting he already knows the midfielder, who is currently training away from the main group.

With Diniz now in place, Corinthians switch focus to their Libertadores opener. On Thursday, nine April, they face Platense in Buenos Aires in the first round of the group stage.
