FIFA, led by Gianni Infantino, and UEFA, led by Aleksander Ceferin, have been accused of complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territory, in a 120-page complaint filed to the International Criminal Court.
According to The Athletic, the filing was brought by Irish Sport for Palestine, Scottish Sport for Palestine, Just Peace Advocates, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor and Sport Scholars for Justice in Palestine. It is also backed by Palestinian footballers and clubs, landowners and a Palestinian human rights organisation.
The complaint alleges FIFA and UEFA include Israeli clubs based in settlements deemed illegal in occupied Palestinian territory, built on land taken from Palestinians, and allow those teams to play on seized land.
It further claims the bodies provide financial and structural support to settlement clubs, some of which have featured in UEFA competitions.
Neither FIFA nor UEFA has issued a public response. If the ICC proceeds, individuals deemed responsible could be summoned as defendants, rather than the organisations themselves.
