FIFA has moved to reassure over the 2026 World Cup schedule, saying the tournament is too big to delay and expressing hope every qualified nation will be there.
According to L'Équipe, chief operating officer Heimo Schirgi made the comments on Monday in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, the World Cup's international broadcast centre.
Asked about Iran's participation amid the war in the Middle East between the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other, he said FIFA is closely monitoring the situation. The body is working with federal and international partners, assessing developments daily.
The 23rd edition is three months away, running from 11 June to 19 July.
Iran are in Group G with Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand, and their involvement has not been questioned so far.
