French media have revealed the preliminary diagnosis of Achraf Hakimi’s injury, the Paris Saint-Germain right-back, sustained during the first half of the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

Initially, Italian referee Maurizio Mariani gave Díaz a yellow card, but after consulting the video assistant referee (VAR), he eventually issued a straight red card to the Colombian player.

Hakimi sidelined for 3 to 5 weeks?

According to L’Équipe, Hakimi could be out for anywhere between three and five weeks, with the precise length of his absence to be confirmed following further medical tests.

As reported by RMC Sport, the injury is an ankle sprain with ligament involvement. The severity of the damage will determine exactly how long Hakimi will be sidelined:

A grade 1 sprain or ligament tear would require between two and three weeks of rest. If it’s a grade 2 tear, the absence could extend to four to eight weeks. Finally, a grade 3 tear could rule the player out for more than three months.

This injury comes at a crucial moment and throws Hakimi’s participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Morocco, into doubt.
