Flamengo agreed the signing of Lucas Paquetá on Wednesday after reaching an agreement with West Ham, yet the board remain active and retain interest in Marcos Antônio of São Paulo.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo held a new meeting with São Paulo about Marcos Antônio’s situation and, despite the difficulty of a deal, remain optimistic. The midfielder is currently on loan at São Paulo from Lazio.
Marcos Antônio joined São Paulo on loan in July 2024. He has met the contractual targets for a permanent transfer priced at €4.5 million, valued at R$ 28 million, but São Paulo have not yet paid Lazio.
São Paulo must first complete the signing with Lazio, so Flamengo are waiting for that outcome before committing significant funds for the player.
Flamengo sought to include Allan in talks, with São Paulo in discussions to sign the Rubro-Negro midfielder, but the Paulista club want the negotiations kept separate. As a result, Flamengo will wait to see whether a move for Marcos Antônio becomes viable.
Meanwhile, Flamengo are preparing to face São Paulo in the first round of the Brasileirão at 21:30 Brasília time at MorumBIS.
