Right-back Wesley has been ruled out of the World Cup with a left thigh injury, and Flamengo have publicly offered their support to their former player.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the club posted on social media. They praised his hard work and said his call-up reflected his form and dedication. They called the injury a sad chapter that does not define him and assured him of the backing of the club and its fans, adding that his future is bright.
Wesley had been Brazil’s starting right-back in recent matches under Ancelotti. The Roma (ITA) defender started the friendly against Egypt on Saturday 06 but had to come off with pain in his left leg.
The incident happened 15 minutes into the first half. Medics tried to get him back on, but he could not continue and was replaced by Danilo of Flamengo. Éderson takes his place in the squad.
Brazil open their World Cup campaign against Morocco next Saturday 13 in New Jersey, United States, with kick-off at 19:00 Brasília time.
