Florent Ghisolfi faces three key Sunderland calls before summer window

Sunderland are stepping up summer plans with Premier League safety close, and Florent Ghisolfi faces three contract calls that will shape the window.

He said last week the aim is to improve while prioritising stability after last summer’s overhaul. According to Sunderland Echo, business will hinge on decisions over Lutsharel Geertruida, Dennis Cirkin and Bertrand Traore.

Geertruida, on loan from RB Leipzig, can be signed for around 20 million. He has covered three roles and sits ninth for minutes, highlighting his value.

Yet he has not been first choice in any single position for Regis Le Bris, and that fee would be a significant outlay if the budget is below last summer’s level. Sunderland may still push, but must persuade him amid likely competition after Liverpool’s January interest. A deal could aid stability and depth.

Cirkin’s exit would likely force a left-back signing, and losing him on a free alongside Dan Neil would jar with the model. When fit he looks up to the level, but recurring injuries, a recent hamstring and competition from Reinildo and Trai Hume complicate talks. Limited starts hint a parting could be on the cards.

Sunderland hold a one-year option on Traore, whose deadline-day arrival quickly made him first choice. Fit and in form he still offers plenty, but wages and injuries since the Wear-Tyne derby win in December complicate the call. A decision may wait until he returns, and he could ease the load on talented but inexperienced wingers.
