Since then, he’s worked his way up from ballboy and fan to exciting prospect and then world-class star.

Stockport-born and a boyhood Blue, Foden’s story is one most of us can only dream of.

And now he’ll write a new chapter, having developed into one of the more experienced players in Enzo Maresca’s new-look squad.

Here we look at the numbers that have defined his career to date.

No player has ever won more major trophies at City than Foden. The 26-year-old is tied with Bernardo Silva and John Stones when it comes to the most decorated players in our history.

Since his debut in 2017, he’s won six Premier League titles, five League Cups, three FA Cups, three Community Shields and one of each of the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

In terms of Premier League titles alone, only five players have ever lifted it more than him.

Foden is one of just 20 men to score at least 100 times for City in our 132-year history.

While a creator as much as a goalscorer himself, Foden has been lethal at periods in his career to date.

His current tally means only Erling Haaland (on 162) of the current squad has found the net more for City than him.

68 of his goals have come in the Premier League, with 20 in the Champions League and 12 in the FA Cup. There have been a further six in the League Cup and four in the FIFA Club World Cup.

2023/24 was comfortably his most prolific campaign, netting 27 times across all competitions as he won the Premier League Player of the Season, PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year.

As mentioned earlier, his role also requires him supplying others and he’s notched a total of 68 assists in a City shirt so far.

With 369 appearances, Foden is fast rising through the ranks in terms of most games in a City shirt.

He’s currently 25th but will surpass the likes of Ederson, Frank Swift and Fernandinho early in the new campaign all being well.

Since becoming a firm regular in the side in 2019/20, he’s averaged almost 48 appearances each season.

Should he match that average this term, he’ll be up to 14th in our overall rankings by the end of 2026/27!

Until the 2026/27 season gets going, Pep Guardiola remains the only manager Foden has ever worked under at Club level.

Foden first came to prominence in senior football when he was named on the bench in the December 2016 Champions League tie with Celtic, while still only 16.

That was Guardiola’s first season in England and a clear indication of the faith he had that Foden was going to develop into a star.

He finally made his first appearance the following November when we beat Feyenoord 1-0 at the Etihad.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Foden and Guardiola enjoyed a special bond, with the Catalan constantly backing the England international and providing him more and more opportunities season upon season.

Now, he’ll be getting used to life with new boss Enzo Maresca – who he already knows well after the Italian played a key role in our coaching staff in 2022/23.

No, not the number of trophies we won in 2022/23. Although that is correct too of course!

This is how many hat-tricks Foden has scored in a City shirt.

The first came in the home Manchester derby in 2022/23 as we ran out 6-3 winners in all-time classic. He had to share the limelight though, with Erling Haaland also scoring three times.

His second and third came within a couple of months of each other during the run-in in 2023/24 as he propelled us to yet another Premier League title.

February saw him make the difference at Brentford, before another three followed in the home rout of Aston Villa in April.
