At the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart, the 47-year-old expressed his surprise at the reports of an alleged conflict with sporting director Max Eberl. „I was also surprised by that,“ explained Freund and made it unmistakably clear that the internal picture was completely different

The discussions were triggered by a report in kicker, which described the collaboration between Freund and Eberl as a „forced marriage“, claiming that the relationship was strained and differences were becoming more frequent

Freund firmly refutes this portrayal: „It’s fun to work together,“ he emphasized, underlining the good cooperation within the sporting management

For him, one thing is certain: „It’s important how it works internally – and it works very, very well.“

Success as an argument

Freund cites the current sporting situation as the strongest counter-argument. FC Bayern is on the verge of winning the championship, has reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and is playing an outstanding season overall. „At the end of the day, you see the result,“ said Freund. „We are there to do the best possible job for Bayern Munich – as a team.“

According to Freund, coach Vincent Kompany also plays an important role in the functioning structure, with the Belgian repeatedly emphasizing the close exchange and trusting cooperation within the management team
