Former Inter Milan defender and pundit Daniele Adani has criticised the Nerazzurri’s summer transfer decisions and believes head coach Cristian Chivu “deserves support.”

Speaking on Panorama, with quotes via FcInterNews, Adani said he sees a Serie A that is “not spectacular, but balanced.”

For Adani, Napoli “appear a little ahead of the other contenders” whilst he also singled out Inter for discussion.

“Inter remain strong, competitive, playing to win the league and go far in the Champions League,” he said.

The former Italy and Inter player also backed new head coach Cristian Chivu, who replaced Simone Inzaghi this summer.

Adani continued to talk Inter, “Chivu deserves support and to be listened to by the club, which hasn’t been good at selecting players.”

The former defender expanded on this, criticising the Nerazzurri management’s approach in the summer transfer window.

“They’ve brought in players who don’t necessarily add value but rather provide alternative options,” he said.

“Support has not backed the revival that the Romanian coach perhaps could have initiated.”

Inter added some talented younger players to their squad over the summer and signed defender Manuel Akanji on loan on deadline day.

However, the Nerazzurri missed out on marquee targets like Ademola Lookman and Manu Kone.

The likes of Petar Sucic and Ange-Yoan Bonny may be useful in the future.

However, Adani believes the club did not do enough for the current season.

Inter were close to signing Lookman from Atalanta but refused to meet La Dea’s €50 million demands for the Nigerian.
