There is no midfielder in the world whose stock is currently higher than that of Vitinha (23). In Luis Enrique’s first season as manager of Paris Saint-Germain, he named the Portugal international as his personal player of the season.
Vitinha then pulled the strings to guide PSG to their first-ever UEFA Champions League title last season and his reward was a third-place ranking in the Ballon d’Or, behind only Lamine Yamal and winner and teammate Ousmane Dembélé.
He continues to impress and netted a hat-trick in PSG’s 5-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday. “He was as he always is: sensational and a level above,” said Luis Enrique in the post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News. “We are very happy to have him.”
His performances are also earning Vitinha accolades from some former PSG players, notably Blaise Matuidi, who in the Portuguese maestro, sees a potential Ballon d’Or winner. “I don’t think that he has any limits,” began the former France international in an interview with L’Équipe. “And so potentially, he is capable, just like Luka Modric in one season, of winning the Ballon d’Or. For a midfielder like him, he will naturally depend on the team around him, on a goalscorer, but he can do it.”
