Juan Foyth has undergone successful surgery on a ruptured left Achilles sustained on Saturday against Real Madrid in LaLiga’s 21st round. It is Villarreal’s fourth serious injury of the season, three of them to defenders, a serious blow for Marcelino García Toral.
The club said in a statement that the Argentina international and 2022 World Cup winner was operated on Monday by doctors Mikel Sánchez and Antonio Maestro at Hospital MiKS in Vitoria, with the club’s medical staff present.
The rupture required surgery and Foyth now faces six to eight months out.
At the end of summer, before the campaign began, Villarreal lost centre-backs Logan Costa and Willy Kambwala. Costa tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will miss the entire season, while Kambwala suffered a left hamstring tear in August with a recovery expected from February.
Young forward Pau Cabanes, who alternated between the first team and Villarreal B, also sustained a serious right knee ligament injury in August. He underwent surgery, with a recovery period of six to eight months.
