Life at Inter Milan for Andy Diouf has not gone to plan.
Signed from Lens this summer for around €25 million, the French midfielder was expected to become a dynamic, box-to-box presence in Cristian Chivu’s system.
Instead, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Diouf has become what they call an “oggetto misterioso” – a mystery object.
So far, the 22-year-old has played just 26 minutes in Serie A across appearances against Torino and Cremonese, the fewest in the squad after Matteo Darmian.
Described as “light, timid, and uncertain,” Diouf has struggled to impose himself physically or tactically in a side that demands aggression and intensity from its midfielders.

Even when introduced in comfortable game states, his cameos have been hesitant, lacking rhythm and confidence.
Sources close to Appiano Gentile suggest that Chivu had hoped to use these brief opportunities to help the player integrate.
However, the early signs have not been encouraging.
As a result, Inter’s directors are weighing the option of a loan move in January.
Therefore, this would allow Diouf to gain experience elsewhere.
