François Modesto’s path from Monaco to Juventus technical director | OneFootball

François Modesto has quietly risen through Serie A’s executive ranks to become Juventus technical director. He returns to Stade Louis-II on Wednesday, as Monaco host Juventus in the eighth and final round of the Champions League league phase.

According to L'Équipe, he spent six seasons at Monaco from 2004 to 2010 and is now a leading voice at Juventus.

He moved straight into management after Bastia, serving as sporting director at Olympiakos in 2016 then technical director at Nottingham Forest from October 2019 to June 2022. That work drew Adriano Galliani’s attention and led to Monza.

The Monza spell ended amicably a year ago. Offers followed, including from Damien Comolli, newly installed as Juventus chief executive and in the United States for the Club World Cup. After video calls, Modesto signed a three-year deal and joined Comolli, Giorgio Chiellini and Marco Ottolini in a four-man leadership group.

At Juventus his voice carries weight. When the club parted with Igor Tudor in late October, the final candidates were Luciano Spalletti, who took the job, and Raffaele Palladino, promoted by Modesto at Monza and later hired by Atalanta.

His Monza hits also included Warren Bondo, recruited from Nancy on a free then sold to AC Milan for €10 million two and a half seasons later. Bondo, now on loan at Cremonese until the end of the season, describes Modesto as discreet, dependable and well suited to Juventus.
