Frattesi and Fagioli on Newcastle United radar after Tonali €116m sale | OneFootball

After agreeing Sandro Tonali’s record €116m sale to Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United are reportedly again looking to Italy for Inter’s Davide Frattesi or Fiorentina midfielder Nicolò Fagioli.

Tonali had been purchased from Milan for over €60m plus add-ons just three years ago, but is now heading to Spurs for double that figure to reunite with his fellow Brescia native Roberto De Zerbi.

Newcastle United suddenly find themselves needing to revamp their midfield and with large amounts of cash, so Tuttomercatoweb suggest they are going to turn back towards more Italian talent.

Frattesi and Fagioli ideas for Newcastle

The first target is Frattesi, who is not part of the project at Inter and has already been heavily linked with a Premier League move to Nottingham Forest.

The 26-year-old is only under contract until June 2028 and the Nerazzurri expect around €30m for his sale.

A more creative candidate is Fagioli, who came up through the Juventus youth academy and was sold to Fiorentina for a total €16m plus add-ons in February 2025.

The 25-year-old has 100 Serie A appearances under his belt, scoring six goals with 11 assists.

Curiously, Fagioli and Tonali were both given lengthy bans due to breaking the rules on gambling in 2023.

Fagioli had been struggling with gambling addiction at Juventus and he contacted the authorities asking for help, sparking the investigation into other players.
