According to The Athletic, sales of Arsenal shirts bearing Gabriel’s name have surged by 350% in the 48 hours since the Champions League final, as supporters show solidarity after his missed penalty.
The 28-year-old centre-back sent the last kick of the shootout over the bar on Saturday, PSG winning 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to claim a second successive title.
Gabriel’s shirt outsold any other over the weekend, with twice as many purchased as the next best seller, a clear show of backing from Arsenal fans.
The Brazilian, formerly of Lille from 2017 to 2020, joined Arsenal in 2020 at the start of Mikel Arteta’s tenure and was influential in a campaign that ended with the Gunners crowned champions of England.
He said on Instagram that he was devastated by the miss but proud of the team and all they achieved together this season. The Brazil international, capped 17 times with one goal, will now focus on the World Cup from 11 June to 19 July.
