The club directors of Galatasaray are confident that “sooner or later” the club will end up signing Hakan Calhanoglu.
The Turkish giants released a statement, along with announcing the arrival of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City, via FCInterNews.
Turkish champions Galatasaray spent several weeks chasing Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu this summer.
However, the Istanbul giants never managed to make an offer that convinced Inter.
In the meantime, though, the transfer rumours were rampant. Furthermore, they made some waves in the Inter squad.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez all but called Calhanoglu out.
Speaking frankly after Inter’s Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored “whoever wants to leave, leave.”
Then, the following day Calhanoglu responded to Martinez’s comments with a social media post of his own. He not-so-subtly commented that “respect is a two-way street.”

Galatasaray may not have signed Calhanoglu this summer. However, they have managed to sign midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City.
The club’s directors stated that “Ilkay since that Galatasaray were the love of his childhood.”
They claim that Gundogan “made great sacrifices” to join.
“Despite having a strong contract with excellent terms at City, he decided to leave England.”
“Our club spent nothing to sign him,” the statement notes. “And the transfer was on truly favourable terms for us.”
The Galatasaray directors then claim that “Hakan also wanted to join, but circumstances didn’t allow it.”
However, the statement adds that “if not today, it will be tomorrow.”
“We’re convinced that sooner or later he will wear the Galatasaray shirt. He has to look at Ilkay’s career, and use him as a model.”
“After all, Hakan is still young. We respect and support his desire to end his career here.”
