Garro strikes from range as Corinthians climb to fifth | OneFootball

Corinthians beat Athletico Paranaense 1-0 at Estádio Mário Celso Petraglia to leap from 12th to fifth in the Brasileirão.

In the 16th minute, Julimar missed a penalty awarded after Matheus Bidu fouled Kevin Viveros. Moments later, Rodrigo Garro rifled a left-footer into the top left from outside the box (21.).

Hugo Souza produced key stops to deny Stiven Mendoza and later Gastón Benavídez as Athletico-PR pushed for an equaliser. The hosts registered 19 attempts and 56.1% of the ball.

Timão were compact and clinical, finishing with just four attempts yet 32 clearances as they protected Garro's opener. The goalkeeper also claimed crosses under pressure in the closing stages.

After the changes, Athletico-PR found width through João Cruz, whose cross teed up Benavídez for a late header, only for Hugo Souza to tip over. Chiqueti and Bruninho added thrust from the bench, but the final pass eluded them.

Thirteen minutes of second half stoppage time were indicated, but Timão saw the game out with disciplined defending.
