Gianluca Prestianni has been recalled to the Argentina squad for the friendly against Guatemala on 31 March, which replaces the cancelled Finalíssima with Spain. The Benfica winger has faced recent criticism, and the return comes about a month after the controversy during Benfica v Real Madrid.
According to Glorioso 1904, the call comes in a key phase of preparation for the 2026 World Cup, when Argentina will defend the crown won in Qatar in 2022. Lionel Scaloni's decision keeps Benfica's number 25 in contention as the staff broaden options.
Prestianni is among the newer faces alongside other less frequent picks, while the group still features Lionel Messi, Emiliano Martínez, Rodrigo De Paul and Benfica captain Nicolás Otamendi.
Despite Dodi Lukebakio's return increasing competition on Benfica's right flank, Prestianni remains among José Mourinho's options and is pushing for a starting place. The call-up is a timely boost as he looks to cement his role for club and country.
This season for Benfica, the €12 million-rated winger has played 33 matches, 21 in Liga Portugal Betclic, five in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 1,611 minutes, he has two goals and two assists.
