Manchester City are nearing a full agreement to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in the final weeks of the transfer window, as per a new report.

Donnarumma has emerged as City’s top contender to step in as first-choice goalkeeper should Galatasaray improve their initial €10 million bid and strike an agreement with the Blues for the 31-year-old goalkeeper.

Ederson did not travel with Manchester City for their Premier League opening day win away at Wolves at the weekend, with the Brazil international’s future at the Etihad Stadium in doubt following strong interest from Turkey.

Galatasaray are understood to have agreed personal terms with the six-time Premier League winner, who failed to engineer a transfer to Saudi Arabia last summer and is keen for a new challenge as he enters the final year of his Manchester City contract.

Manchester City are already overhauled their goalkeeping department this summer following the acquisitions of James Trafford and Marcus Bettinelli, with the former returning to his boyhood club for £27 million following two seasons at Burnley.

Scott Carson has left the club at the end of his contract, with Bettinelli brought in from Chelsea as Manchester City’s third-choice goalkeeper. City have made six first-team signings in total this summer.

In addition to Trafford, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki all made their Premier League debuts in a 4-0 thrashing of Wolves on Saturday as a brace from Erling Haaland and a strike each from Reijnders and Cherki earned a dominant win for the Blues.

Having parted ways with Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Scott Carson, James McAtee already this summer, a potential departure for Ederson in the final weeks of the summer transfer window has opened the door for Manchester City to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking to La Domenica Sportiva Estate, journalist Ciro Venerato has reported on Manchester City’s pursuit of the 26-year-old Italy international, who is believed to be keen on joining forces with Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

“A €35 million deal, plus a €16 million salary? That Donnarumma would go to City was always clear to me: I never had any doubts,” Venerato said, as relayed by Area Napoli. “Regarding the transfer figures, we need to see if City will be able to spend less than the €35 million announced.

“Regarding the salary, however, we’re in agreement. It was one of the reasons for the split with PSG. Gigi (Donnarumma) wanted to improve his salary compared to the situation he was experiencing in France, and €16 million is certainly a very significant sum.”

Le10 Sport have further reported that Manchester City are in a ‘very good position’ to sign Donnarumma as Galatasaray progress their pursuit of Ederson, who is keen to move to Turkey should City agree a fee with the suitor club, as relayed by Sport Witness.
