Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read has spoken openly about his future in a whirlwind transfer window where both from Nottingham Forest and AS Roma have shown concrete interest.

Chatting with Voetbal International, the valuable Feyenoord youngster spoke beyond his mere 20 years of age. According to Read, staying in Rotterdam isn’t the end of the world.

“It’s not like I think: I have to leave now because I’ve learned all I can here. Certainly not,” the Amsterdam-born defender explained. “I still have an awful lot to learn, and I’ve only just turned twenty.”

After a fine couple of seasons at De Kuip, where the developing talent has tallied 53 appearances and 15 direct goal contributions, Read remains self-assured as clubs from the top five leagues battle for his signature.

“What I will say is that I want to consider a transfer if that opportunity arises. You never know how many chances you get in life. And suppose it doesn’t come to a departure, then I will stay, and I just want to play for the championship.”

For the Netherlands U21, a senior international call-up is set in his sights. “After that, the Dutch national team is the next step. I hope.”
