An attacker that Tottenham Hotspur have been targeting is ‘intrigued’ by the idea of moving to the north London club, but he is still not giving them priority.
Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou even though he delivered them the Europa League trophy, causing some division in opinion amongst fans.
They finished 17th in the Premier League, which jeopardised the Australian’s stay, and ex-Bees boss Thomas Frank has been appointed to lead them for the next three seasons.
With the transfer window going on, Daniel Levy will look to back the Dane, as the north Londoners will look to perform in the Champions League and in the Premier League.
Frank has instantly looked back to one of the players he managed at Brentford, as he is interested in signing Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United want the Bees attacker though and he has been prioritising heading to Old Trafford over all other options.
That has not changed, but he is, according to Sky Sports News, ‘intrigued’ by the interest from Tottenham.
Knowing Frank well, Mbeumo could likely settle in at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium without an issue.
However, unless Manchester United cannot do the deal, Spurs look unlikely to have the chance to welcome him.
Newcastle United also wanted Mbeumo, but the cost of the deal put the Magpies off and they pulled themselves out of the way.
The 25-year-old attacker has been at the Gtech Community Stadium since 2022, amassing close to 250 games for the Bees.
Mbeumo had a fantastic last campaign with Brentford, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists in 38 Premier League starts.
It remains to be seen if Frank will make another attempt to convince his former charge to abandon his preference for Manchester United to join Spurs.
Spurs did just recently add to their attacking options by making Mathys Tel’s loan from Bayern Munich a permanent deal.
That has not though ended their desire to get Mbeumo and all eyes will be on how the chase for his signature plays out in the coming weeks.
