This is a real blow for the Greens. An attacking hope for the national team, Amine Gouiri will miss AFCON 2025 in Morocco after suffering a new shoulder injury.

Olympique de Marseille announced in recent hours that the Algerian international will be forced to miss the upcoming AFCON after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder. The player's rehabilitation period is estimated to be around three months.

The Olympique de Marseille statement

"Olympique de Marseille announces that its forward Amine Gouiri will undergo surgery on his right shoulder.This procedure, decided by mutual agreement between the player and the club, follows several episodes of dislocation in recent months.Amine will undergo a rehabilitation period estimated at around three months.This operation was chosen with a clear objective: to allow Amine to regain his full physical abilities without hesitation and to come back even stronger on the pitch.The entire club wishes Amine a speedy recovery and will support him throughout his rehabilitation."

The 24-year-old was injured last Tuesday during the match between Algeria and Uganda, as part of the final day of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. After a violent collision with the opposing goalkeeper, he was forced to leave the pitch before the end of the match.

This injury adds to a series of misfortunes for the Marseille striker, who was already ruled out of the 2024 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire due to a knee injury.
