Greenwood named in FIFPRO World 11 shortlist | OneFootball

The FIFPRO Women’s World 11 shortlist has been announced, and City captain Alex Greenwood is among the nominees.

Voted for by over 25,000 professional players each year, the prestigious award celebrates the 11 best players at the end of each calendar year.

The goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards with the most votes in their position make it into the final team. The 11th spot is then assigned to the outfield player with the next highest number of votes to complete the side.

Greenwood’s inclusion in the shortlist follows her first season as the Blues’ club captain in 2024/25 and the crucial role she played in England’s triumphant UEFA Euro 2025 campaign this summer.

Although she suffered an injury which kept her on the sidelines between December and April, the centre-back made 19 appearances in all competitions for City last term – with 18 of those starts.

Making her return from the issue in a 1-0 win over Leicester, she then featured in each of our final two Barclays Women’s Super League matches of the campaign - proving her fitness to the Lionesses who included Greenwood in their squad for the European Championships.

During the tournament in Switzerland, she played in each of England’s seven fixtures as they retained the major trophy they won in 2021.

This also included her dispatched penalty in the shootout victory over Spain in the final when coolly drilling low into the bottom left corner before Sarina Wiegman’s side prevailed 3-1.

And she’s carried that momentum into the 2025/26 campaign where she’s played in all eight of Andrée Jeglertz side’s matches so far with City winning six of those assignments and losing just one.

The FIFPRO Women’s World 11 will be announced on Monday 3 November at 13:00 (UK) and many congratulations to Alex for her inclusion in the shortlist!
