Guto Ferreira has hailed Dorival Júnior as the ideal fit for Corinthians after the club beat Portuguesa 8-7 on penalties at Canindé on Sunday to reach the Campeonato Paulista semi-finals.

According to Meu Timao, the out-of-work coach lauded Dorival’s leadership and organisation on TV Gazeta’s Mesa Redonda, saying he leaves a legacy wherever he works and was the perfect choice for the club.

He pointed to trophies with Vasco, São Paulo and Corinthians during challenging periods, and praised Dorival’s simplicity, accessibility and know-how, arguing there was no better option for Corinthians at this moment.

Dorival arrived at Parque São Jorge in April 2025 after a failed bid to rehire Tite. Since then he has overseen 56 matches, with 25 wins, 15 draws and 16 defeats, winning the 2025 Copa do Brasil and the 2026 Supercopa do Brasil. The team have scored 63 goals, an average of 1.13 per game, and conceded 48, 0.86 per match.

Ferreira had offered similar praise in September last year, highlighting Dorival’s use of academy players as Breno Bidon, Gui Negão, André Luiz, Kayke and Dieguinho earned opportunities amid a spate of absences.

Corinthians visit Cruzeiro at 20:00 on Wednesday at the Mineirão in the fourth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. At the weekend, date to be confirmed, they face Novorizontino at the Estádio Doutor Jorge Ismael de Biasi for a place in the state final against Palmeiras or São Paulo.
