Chemsdine Talbi’s World Cup outing for Morocco against Brazil sparked a playful on-air exchange, as BBC commentator Guy Mowbray coaxed Alan Shearer into offering praise for Sunderland.

According to Sunderland Echo, the Sunderland winger came on as a second-half substitute during the Group C match, after an impressive debut Premier League campaign on Wearside following the club’s return.

Talbi helped Régis Le Bris’s side finish seventh to reach Europe, and he etched himself into recent folklore with the equaliser at St James’ Park in the derby win over Newcastle United.

Talbi’s introduction led Mowbray to underline the Black Cats’ presence at the tournament, as he said Sunderland have 12 players involved, two more than Real Madrid.

“Anybody would think you're a Sunderland fan, Guy,” Shearer joked. Mowbray replied that he was only setting it up for his North East knowledge, and Shearer said Sunderland had a great season. Mowbray quipped that no teeth were gritted, before Shearer added: “They absolutely did.”
