GYM trio match Corinthians run, but lose first under Dorival Júnior

On Wednesday night (5th), Corinthians faced Red Bull Bragantino at the Cícero de Souza Marques Stadium, in a match valid for the 32nd round of the Brazilian Championship, and lost by a score of 2-1. The result marked the first defeat of the GYM trio—Garro, Yuri Alberto, and Memphis—under the command of Dorival Júnior.

Before Wednesday's match, the trio had played four matches with Dorival Júnior in charge and had won them all. In those matches with the players available, Corinthians had not even conceded a goal and saw the trio tally four goal involvements (one goal and one assist from Memphis, and three assists from Garro).

In the defeat to Red Bull Bragantino, the Corinthians goal was scored precisely by Yuri Alberto. However, the match marked the end of the GYM trio's unbeaten run with Dorival Júnior and was also the first match since the coach's arrival in which Corinthians conceded goals with all three on the field.

On the other hand, the trio of Garro, Yuri Alberto, and Memphis matched their longest streak as starters for Corinthians. It was the fourth consecutive match in which the Alvinegro Paulista was able to field its three main offensive players as starters. They also started in the wins over Atlético-MG, Vitória, and Grêmio.

The last sequence of four consecutive games as starters had occurred in November of last year. On that occasion, the trio was on the field against Racing, in the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinal, and also against Palmeiras, Vitória, and Cruzeiro in the Brasileirão, playing a decisive role in the comeback that took Corinthians out of the relegation zone.

Now, Corinthians remains focused on the national competition. Looking to get back to winning ways, the Alvinegro will face Ceará next Sunday (9th) at Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship.
