Erling Haaland says England are still the “clear favourites” against Norway, despite his side’s impressive form during the World Cup.
England are set to face Haaland’s Norway on Saturday night in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Haaland has had a stellar tournament so far, netting seven times, including two goals in the previous round against Brazil.
Norway have never reached the quarter-finals of the competition before, and Haaland was asked what their chances of beating England are.
“Really low still,” he answered. “I think there are some clear favourites out there. England’s one of them, so, I think all of you [the media] should put every single pressure on the English lads.”
“I think everyone should stay humble, but yeah, they should be confident of progressing, definitely. It’s England.”
The Manchester City striker was born in Leeds, England, but represents Norway at international level. He was asked about the importance of this match to him personally.
“It’s a special game,” he said. “I think, for me, it’s super special, because I play in England and I’m born in England, and, yeah, you also play against teammates and everything.
“So, it’s a bit, it’s not weird, but it’s, I don’t know the name in English. It’s a funny game, and it’s going to be nice.
“I mean, playing against Brazil was kind of crazy for us Norwegians, and to win against Brazil and then go and play England in the quarter-final in the World Cup in the USA is quite special, and, I think, if you watch the scenes back in Norway, this is not normal for Norway to be, so, it’s super special.”
