INEOS are hard at work, both with regards to the Manchester United first team as well with the academy.

The club have signed the likes of Harley Emsden-James, Enzo Kana-Biyik, and Diego Leon for the academy. The latter has already impressed head coach Ruben Amorim, prompting a change in the club’s transfer plans.

Last season, following Patrick Dorgu’s arrival, the Portuguese tactician opted to promote academy wonderkid Harry Amass to the first team and utilise him as the Dane’s understudy.

The 18-year-old made seven appearances in all competitions, impressing with his work-rate but there were clear signs that he needed to improve physically.

Which is why the Red Devils have decided to loan him out this season, with Leon set to take over his role as Dorgu’s backup. Which is why his name was absent from the squad that went on the pre-season tour to the United States.

The England U18 international is primarily a left-back, but with the change in formation under Amorim, the 20-time English league champions are eager to find the perfect new home where he can continue to evolve as a wingback.

As per The Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath, Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have expressed interest in acquiring the Carrington graduate’s services for the upcoming season.

But whether INEOS will agree to send him there remains to be seen, especially amid the financial issues the club is experiencing at the minute.

Sheffield Wednesday lining up a move

“Manchester United full-back Harry Amass targeted by Sheffield Wednesday for season-long loan.

“They are under transfer embargo and need EFL dispensation to register players but have been trying to add to squad today,” the journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The club’s owner has failed to pay wages on time or in full for three successive months, while the club have failed to sign anyone this window. Whether moving to a club in turmoil is the best course of action remains to be seen.

Loaning out players to the clubs that best suit their style is something INEOS must improve on. Hopefully, Harry Amass can continue to improve wherever he lands up.

A confirmed decision on where the defender will move to is expected next week.
