Harry Gray is close to joining Rotherham United on loan for the rest of the season, with the deal expected to be finalised later today, according to Leeds Live.

The 17-year-old has yet to play a competitive first-team minute since his debut in April last year, though he featured during Leeds’ summer tour.

Rotherham have won only six of 24 League One matches and sit in the bottom four, five points from safety with 22 games remaining.

Manager Matt Hamshaw was non-committal after Tuesday's 3-0 EFL Trophy defeat to Huddersfield Town, saying he could not comment and that Gray remains a Leeds player.

Leeds have been open to a loan if Gray wished to take up an option, and United staff hope a spell at the Millers brings consistent senior minutes.

Gray signed his first professional contract in October and could debut in Saturday’s home meeting with Stockport County. Top scorer Sam Nombe, who has five goals in nine League One games, could return.

At academy level this season he has six goals in seven Premier League 2 outings, plus two against Accrington Stanley in the EFL Trophy.

He has made two senior matchday squads this term, most recently the win at Wolves in mid-September, and was not included for Sunday’s FA Cup trip to Derby County.
