Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer wasn’t the only FCB player to make a crucial error that contributed to the historic end of Bayern Munich’s winning streak on Saturday afternoon. It was none other than the seemingly invincible Harry Kane who failed to clear the ball on Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi’s second goal in the 2-2 Bundesliga draw. The England national team captain spoke on the incident afterwards.

“I wanted to clear the ball [in the 83rd-minute] and cleared it right to him [Doekhi],” Kane admitted when speaking to Sky Germany afterwards. “Then he finished well. The fact that we then equalized [Kane himself at 90+3] proves we had the right attitude.

We expected a game like this,” Kane also noted. “Then there was the poor pitch, which caused the ball to bounce around a lot. There were also a few small [refereeing] decisions against us throughout the game, but that happens from time to time in football.”

On the topic of the end of Bayern’s historic winning streak, Kane remained stoic. The 32-year-old even discerned something of a silver lining in the fact that – after winning all 16 of their competitive fixtures this year – the German giants finally dropped points.

That can become the main thing people talk about,” Kane noted, inferring that the focus could now shift to being an “excellent” team rather than a “perfect” one.
