Harry Maguire turned down a ‘mega-money move’ to Inter Miami before signing a one-year contract extension at Manchester United.
Manchester United announced that Maguire had signed an extension to his deal on Tuesday, with the contract running until June 2027, with the option of a further 12 months.
The contract was recognition of Maguire’s role under interim boss Michael Carrick, with the 33-year-old having been a key part of the club’s improved form.
Several sides had hoped to sign Maguire as a free agent in the summer, including Inter Miami and Napoli.
Journalist Samuel Luckhurst has revealed that Maguire rejected a lucrative approach from Inter Miami. The move would have seen the defender link up with Lionel Messi at the David Beckham-owned MLS franchise.
Maguire is understood to be keen to finish his career at Old Trafford if possible.
“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day,” he said on Tuesday.
“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.”
