Latest team news:

  • Johan Bakayoko trained on Thursday and will undergo further tests on Friday. Ole Werner is fairly confident that the winger will be able to be part of the matchday squad on Saturday.
  • Rômulo has also been able to increase his workload. Barring any negative side-effects, he is targeting a return to team training next week.
  • Ridle Baku suffered a syndesmosis injury to his left ankle during the 0-0 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 27-year-old is expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks.
  • Timo Werner (muscle problems), Assan Ouédraogo (knee tendon injury), Benny Henrichs (rehab after Achilles tendon tear), Viggo Gebel (ACL tear in right knee), El Chadaillie Bitshiabu (muscular injury) and Kevin Kampl (personal reasons) are all still unavailable.

The upcoming opponent:

  1. "We won't be gifted the three points, but will do everything we can to ensure that they stay with us. Frankfurt are a top team with plenty of options and pace up front. Their clear change of pace in attack is what makes them a real threat. They don't need many chances to score. Conversely, we can also be just as dangerous with the players that we have. It's a top match between two teams that are on a similar level. We know exactly how we want to play against them. We're confident enough to say that, if we manage to perform to our standards, that we will be able to win the game. When faced with an attack like Frankfurt's, we need to remain compact and put pressure on the ball. In a game like this, you have to leave it all out on the pitch and be strong in every phase of the game. Counter-attacks will play a key role, because it's an area that both teams are extremely strong in."

The squad and the attack

  1. "I would obviously prefer it if we had all our players available. We're a better team when we have all our injured players back available. It's always about finding a way to manage to win games. That's why I'm focused on those players who are available. We've got plenty of depth to our squad. Despite the absences, we're still able to play good football and win games - that's our aim. No two players are exactly alike. You also don't always want every player in one position to be the same, so that you're able to react to various moments in the game. Rômulo's strength lies in being able to win back possession, while Conrad Harder is able to add depth. As a team, we have to figure out how to make the most of everyone's strengths."

The end of the year

  1. "We still have three big games to come, in which I'm including the trip the Union. They've proven twice recently against Bayern just how tough to beat they can be at home. It's about maintaining a certain level of stability so that the team are able to consistently perform even in the midst of such different games. We have to be fully focused, regardless of who we're up against."

Yan Diomande

  1. "Just like all of us, he wasn't happy with the first half against Magdeburg. When you see how many balls he recovered in order to initiate a take-on, then that's something that I find very impressive and notable. He's able to maintain a high level of intensity, despite having been away with the national team in between. You can't forget that this is his first season in professional football. He still has areas he can improve on, for example, when it comes to his decision-making. But in my opinion, he's already playing at a very high level."
