Liverpool's next superstar is coming soon, and he's incredible.
There's so much synergy between Red Bull and the Reds - a lot of that is reflected by the amount of signings that have occurred between the two sides over the last decade.
Liverpool have developed a strong track record of recruiting players from the Red Bull football network, particularly from RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg. More often than not, those signings have gone on to become major successes at Anfield.
Dominik Szoboszlai is one of the clearest examples, though he is far from the only one.
Sadio Mane previously played for Red Bull Salzburg, and his pace, intensity, and relentless pressing made him an ideal fit for Jurgen Klopp’s system. He played a key role in Liverpool winning both the Premier League and the Champions League.
Liverpool have also signed players such as Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino, with Keita notably representing both Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig before his move to Merseyside.
More recently, Ibrahima Konate arrived from RB Leipzig and has become another important part of Liverpool’s squad. As has the aforementioned Szoboszlai, who has become a fan favourite.
A major reason these transfers have often been so successful is the stylistic similarity between Liverpool and the Red Bull clubs. High pressing, tactical intensity, physical conditioning, and quick transitions are central to both approaches.
Because of that, players arriving from Salzburg or Leipzig are often already well suited to Liverpool’s demands, making the adaptation process significantly smoother than it might otherwise be.
Now, the connection has grown even stronger of late with Jurgen Klopp working as the head of Global Football at Red Bull.
Links to Red Bull players have been in amass in light of this. Yan Diomande is the strongest link of the lot and he is likely to end-up at Anfield come the summer transfer window.
Luthshareel Geetruida is another possible arrival, having worked with Arne Slot at Feyenoord.
Meanwhile, former Red Bull Salzburg academy product Mamadou Sangare is another one who is being linked with a transfer to Liverpool this summer.
But forget about all of them - the Red Bull system is hiding a superstar who should be the next big transfer for Liverpool.
© IMAGO - Adri Mehmeti Liverpool
Adri Mehmeti has just turned 17-years-old, he was born in April 2009 so he wasn't even around when Liverpool beat Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford in that same year in March.
If that makes you feel old, don't worry - it makes all of us feel old.
However, that's not the main point about Mehmeti. He's young, scarily young but he's also scarily talented. One of the most talented players to have maybe even been produced by the Red Bull system.
But definitely the most talented to have been produced by New York Red Bull, for whom Mehmeti plays for at the moment.
The 17-year-old midfielder is a perfect all-action player. He covers a lot of ground and he's very good on the ball. He ranks fourth among midfielders for passes into the final third in the MLS this season (11.26 per 90 minutes), and fourth for progressive passes (10.13 per 90 minutes).
Impressively, he also completes 82% of his progressive passes. He's simply very good at making those line-breaking passes that Liverpool's midfielders have not been able to find all season.
On top of this, Mehmeti works really hard off the ball and is very good at winning possession and reading the game. He averages the third most possession-adjusted interceptions (8.14 per 90 minutes) and is fourth among midfielders for successful defensive actions (10.13 per 90 minutes).
When you look at that data - it's so clear he's exactly what Liverpool need right now. Red Bull have given Liverpool so many gems over the years, now the next superstar signing is clear for all to see.
Mehmeti is the one. And if the club is smart, he will be coming to Anfield.
