Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund has named Cristiano Ronaldo as his biggest sporting inspiration, and has also revealed his personal ‘top 3’ centre-forwards currently playing in Serie A, which includes injured teammate Romelu Lukaku.

The Denmark international gave an in-depth interview to La Repubblica, published on Friday.

Hojlund has hit the ground running with Napoli after sealing his Serie A return with a move away from Manchester United on loan with a potential obligation to buy for a total of €50m.

He found the net on his Partenopei debut in a 3-1 win over Fiorentina, and has been part of the Napoli side that has recorded a perfect start to the 2025-26 Serie A season. They sit at the top of the table on 12 points after four matches, two points clear of Juventus in second.

“I want to become a striker who scores lots of goals. I’ve improved a lot in my role in recent years, and I think I have good qualities, but I still have a lot to learn,” the Dane told La Repubblica.

Hojlund admitted that he hasn’t always felt like the ‘strongest’ player in the squad wherever he has played in his career to date, which is why Cristiano Ronaldo is one of his biggest inspirations.

“I’ve never felt like the most talented in the group, even if you have to be at a certain level to play for a team like United or Napoli. I’ve always had to work harder than the others, I’m aware of that. That’s why Cristiano is my idol. He always wants to improve and works hard to become even better.

“In the whole world, the best for me are Ronaldo, Haaland, Lewandowski and Gyokeres. In Serie A, I’d go with Lukaku, Vlahovic and Lautaro Martinez. Then there’s me, Rasmus.”
