Chelsea will be looking to bounce back when they travel to face League One side Lincoln City in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

The Blues have endured a difficult week. They’ve now gone three games without a win, a run that started with a frustrating 2-2 draw against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Back-to-back defeats against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and another frustrating loss at Manchester United followed.

Maresca will hope his side can get back to winning ways in the League Cup, although he is wary of his side slipping up despite being overwhelming favourites.

How Chelsea could line up

Maresca’s side suffered two setbacks against United. Aside from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez getting sent off, talisman Cole Palmer also limped off injured as his groin issue resurfaced.

Those issues mean changes are expected for the midweek tie at the LNER Stadium. Filip Jorgensen is set to deputise in goal, while Maresca has a big call to make over his attacking line-up.

The Italian coach has not shied away from using cup competitions to experiment, giving valuable game time to younger players such as teenage winger Estevao.

The League Cup could provide another opportunity for him to shine.

Palmer’s involvement will depend on late fitness tests, but Chelsea should be able to get by without their Ballon d’Or nominee.

New signings Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens are likely to provide support for 19-year-old striker Marc Guiu, who has been recalled from loan and will be eager to make an impression.

Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah are expected to form the central defensive pairing, flanked by Jorrel Hato and Malo Gusto.

Enzo Fernandez could be partnered by Andrey Santos in midfield, as Moises Caicedo looks set for a rest.
