Jack Rudoni's own stance on leaving Coventry City for Southampton has been made clearer
Jack Rudoni's future at Coventry City has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks amid strong interest from newly-relegated Southampton, although the playmaker is not intent on leaving the CBS Arena in what represents a considerable boost for head coach Frank Lampard.
As reported on Wednesday afternoon on Sky Sports' live transfer centre (16:11) via Rob Dorsett, Rudoni does not want to leave Coventry after being courted by Southampton as they bid to return to the Premier League at the very first attempt.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at the CBS Arena by recording ten goals and 12 assists in the 2024/25 Championship season to help Coventry to a top-six finish, having arrived from Huddersfield Town in a reported £5 million deal.
However, after the Sky Blues failed to gain promotion by crashing out of the play-off semi-finals to Sunderland, Rudoni has been strongly linked with a move away from the West Midlands throughout this summer.
Earlier this month, Jack Rosser of The Sun reported that Coventry had rejected a bid from Southampton for Rudoni's services, with Football League World later exclusively revealing the Sky Blues' £15 million asking price in order to sanction a sale for the club's prized asset.
The latest update from Dorsett has disclosed that Southampton have made an approach to enquire about Rudoni, which has been rejected. However, the most significant takeaway is that it's now said Rudoni doesn't want to leave Coventry, with his stance sure to give Lampard's side much-needed clarity and relief over his future.
Rudoni, of course, has gone up a level since joining Coventry from Huddersfield, and has been particularly impressive after Lampard's appointment in place of Mark Robins back in November.
The Sky Blues also have security when it comes to Rudoni, who remains under contract for another three years, having penned a four-year contract to join the club last summer.
Retaining Rudoni's signature could represent the single biggest play from Coventry in this summer's transfer window, which has shaped up to be a rather quiet one for the promotion hopefuls.
They will want to add to the three incomings made in the form of Miguel Angel Brau, Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Carl Rushworth before the window deadline on September 1, in order to establish themselves as sure-fire promotion contenders once again this term.
Keeping hold of Rudoni, who proved his worth as one of the Championship's classiest and most functional attacking midfielders last term, would represent a considerable statement of intent towards exactly that, with the prospect of retaining him and avoiding a sale of a star to a potential promotion rival a desirable one for the Sky Blues.
He's been integral to the club's upwards direction of movement under Lampard to date and, still aged just 24, is only poised to get even better in the coming months, which will increase Coventry's promotion chances alongside his future resale value.
