The value of Ipswich Town has skyrocketed in recent years.
Ipswich Town supporters have watched their club transform dramatically in recent years.
After years of mid-table obscurity in the Championship, the Tractor Boys were relegated to League One at the end of the 2018/19 season, before they endured an underwhelming period in the third tier.
Everything would change over the course of two years at Portman Road. After ascending from League One in 2023, Ipswich would go on to do the unthinkable and achieve a second successive promotion, this time to the Premier League.
The club would be relegated from the top flight after just one year, but the atmosphere around the club is a stark contrast to what it was just five years ago.
Ipswich recently confirmed a change in ownership structure, with the Arizona state pension fund that purchased the club in 2021 selling a large chunk of shares in a deal that has outlined the Tractor Boys' current valuation.
At a level estimated by Transfermarkt to be higher than some clubs in the Premier League, Ipswich are now, by definition, a Championship powerhouse.
The Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS) purchased 90% of Ipswich in April 2021 through investment managers ORG, with the club sitting in England's third tier, for an estimated £30 million.
After halving shares in 2024, a recent transfer of shares has seen Portman Holdings LLC become the majority shareholder in a deal that, as reported by The Athletic, values the club at a whopping £350 million - a figure that lines up with the valuation set by Wrexham as they market a minority stake.

PSPRS chief investment officer Mark Steed said that: "Our investment in Ipswich Town has been an incredibly important one, both in terms of everything the club has achieved as well as the clear benefits it has brought to our members when you consider the value we have secured when compared to the original investment in 2021."
Ipswich were in the Premier League last season, so their value will naturally reflect that. But the comparison with Wrexham is an important one.
Wrexham were purchased by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2021, with the club sitting in the National League. The club would race through the divisions, reaching the Championship by this calendar year.

With the fame of their owners, Disney documentary, and general form in mind, Wrexham's popularity has risen to a level higher than a sizeable number of Championship clubs.
Sky-high ambition has also come with the package, with the club carrying hopes much higher than simply remaining in the Championship.
For Ipswich to be valued at a similar figure shows that the Tractor Boys themselves aren't planning to stick around in the second tier after their own fantastic rise.
The difference between the club relegated to League One in 2019, and Ipswich now is simply staggering.
While the campaign has not panned out as expected thus far, the Tractor Boys entered the current campaign as red-hot promotion favourites following their relegation from the Premier League, which itself provides an advantage due to parachute payments.

The fact of the matter now is that Ipswich have expectations placed on their head that would have been alien to supporters during their previous Championship spell.
With the likes of Jack Clarke, Jaden Philogene, Leif Davis and Chuba Akpom, Kieran McKenna has players at his disposal that have torn apart the division before, further raising expectations.
After their recent Premier League spell, it is now a given that Ipswich will be among the promotion contenders, and the new valuation reflects that the club is now one of the powerhouses of the Championship.
