According to Leicestershire Live, the Foxes have taken out a loan from Macquarie bank against the fee agreed with the Premier League side for the goalkeeper.

The London outfit confirmed the deal for the Danish international in August for a total fee of £18 million, including add-ons.

However, the Championship side won’t receive the entire fee up front in one lump sum, and it remained unclear how much of the structure of the agreement was taken up with these additional payments.

It has been reported that Leicester have taken a loan out against the agreement reached with West Ham for Hermansen, as is a standard practice in the industry.

It’s understood that this has allowed the Foxes to improve their cashflow situation, bringing in the total fee for the goalkeeper while West Ham’s installments pay off the loan.

It’s reported by Leicestershire Live that the Hammers’ annual installments amount to £3.78 million, with four payments running until 2028.

This highlights that the up front cost of the deal to sign the Dane was likely around the £15 million mark.

However, some of that £15 million will have to be paid to Brondby, who reportedly agreed a sell-on clause in the deal to sign the player when he joined Leicester in the summer of 2023.

Regardless, given the Championship side’s financial issues, the sale of Hermansen should have helped ease any worries about future compliance with profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

The 25-year-old was not the only major player sold at the King Power Stadium over the summer.

Martí Cifuentes’ side also saw Kasey McAteer, James Justin, Conor Coady and Wilfred Ndidi all also depart before last Monday’s deadline closed the market until 2026.

Leicester’s financial issues have been well documented, and it meant that the club were in a position where they needed to sell.

Earning a £15 million fee up front for Hermansen is good business, especially as he was signed in a deal worth a reported £6 million.

Jakub Stolarczyk has been tasked with stepping up since the deal with West Ham, and he has made a solid start to life as the team’s new number one choice.

It was a difficult summer for the Foxes given their need to sell, but the club should still be capable of competing for promotion back to the Premier League.
